Vietnam, Hanoi and Da Nang (October 2022)

I had been warned about the traffic chaos in Vietnam but I don’t think you can really prepare for the chaos (unless perhaps you have been to India).  Our hotel in Hanoi was a 30 minute drive from the airport and by the time we arrived I had already decided that I would not be crossing the road on my own at any time during this trip!

Our hotel was very nice and the view from our room gives some indication of the busyness of Hanoi itself.   It is a fascinating city though with lots of great places to eat, drink, shop and walk.

After experiencing the chaos or Hanoi, we flew to Da Nang, a coastal city in central Vietnam.  Da Nang feels like a totally different country to Hanoi as much more relaxed.  Again, our hotel was lovely (although breakfast left a little bit to be desired) and it was only a 300m walk to the beach where there are lots of places to eat and drink or just relax and watch the world go by.

Whilst staying in Da Nang we also had an evening trip to Hoi An, originally a port town where many of the original buildings have been preserved.  We visited the Ancient Town where we wandered through the quaint, historic shops, restaurants and bars and we took a boat trip up the river which is lovely on an evening with all the lanterns in the shops and houses.

Another interesting trip was to the Golden Bridge, a 150m long bridge at the Ba Na Hills resort.  The bridge connects the cable car station and provides an amazing view of the valley although it was quite cloudy and wet on the day we visited so our photos don’t do the scenery justice.
